Next meeting coming up!

The March meeting is coming up quick and should be a good one. Guest speaker Mick Poultney is joining us to talk about raised beds and no dig gardening. There will of course be our usual raffle and tea and a chat afterwards. Hopefully see you all there.

February Newsletter – Our AGM!

Thank you to all who joined us for our AGM.

REVIEW OF 2014

We had a varied and interesting set of speakers last year, including Religion in the Garden, composting for the beginner and the brave; making our gardens more manageable; a Tree Walk; our Summer trip to Holt Farm and Barley Wood; managing our greenhouses; plant selection from Cleeve Garden Centre; and the life path to a plant business by Gill Hayward of Moor Plants. That brought us round again to Christmas which was our usual friendly and some might say challenging affair if you take account of the hands on project and the quiz.

PROGRAMME FOR 2015

Celia presented the speakers for the year and these included Mick Poulteney in Marsh, advising on raised beds and no-dig veg growing; Mediaeval Gardening; Incredible Edibles; Invasive weeds; a summer trip hopefully to 2 Somerset gardens; more to be confirmed.

CALENDULA PROJECT

Emma Moore had been very pleased with the quality of the Calendula plants and they had been well received at Hampton Court Flower show, even though the quality of the seeds and the propagation success rate had been a trifle disappointing to those involved. Emma has secured funding for another year so there will be an opportunity to join in again. Let us know as soon as possible if you are interested.

BRISTOL EUROPEAN GREEN CAPITAL 2015

Matthew Symonds joined us and outlined some of the plans for the Bedminster area, within the context of the Green Capital events, a lot of which had a gardening focus.

Events for Blooming Bedminster included

  • A grant of £40k to create walking routes round Bedminster and Ashton, launch date 22nd February at Tobacco factory;
  • Open garden days: Back gardens 10th May 1 – 5pm
  • This date may also offer us a plant sale opportunity, cost £17 for a table
  • Patchwork gardening;
  • Bedminster secret gardens, charge £2 for garden entry brochures, 12th July
  • Many more events will appear on our blog, and at Bedminster.org.uk

Our business concluded, we were grateful for Celia having made cake.
